🌻 Ribbons, Sunflowers & Late Summer Magic: Wrapping Up a Beautiful Season
As the golden light starts to slant a little lower and the mornings turn crisp, we find ourselves catching our breath and looking back on what has been a truly unforgettable season. From planting the first rows all the way to the few remaining days of harvest, this summer brought us so much laughter, learning, and real good company.
🏆 July Feats & Fair Ribbons
Things kicked off in high gear back in July when we ventured off the farm for some friendly local rivalry and celebration at the Stanwood Camano Fair. The fair this year was so much fun as usual; between morning harvests and daily chores, we barely had time to count, but we brought home a rainbow of blue, red, and white ribbons for our produce, cut flowers, flower arrangements, and of course our art which included an amazing rendition of Jimothy.
The undisputed highlight of fair week, however, belonged to Farmer Megan, who entered the hot dog eating contest and walked away a champion! Megan didn't stop there, either. She carried that momentum straight into the Scottish Highland Games later that month, channeling pure, unfiltered farmer strength—proving that hauling compost, lifting feed bags, and working the land every day really does pay off.
🌟 Island Magic at the Grange
Throughout the summer, Evergreen Farm has been working hard at the South Camano Grange. We genuinely believe in helping our community be happy and healthy and we hope that gathering with our neighbors under the summer sky created some really special island moments for everyone. The Summer Solstice Dance & BBQ was an absolute blast, and our outdoor drive-in movie night showing Casablanca brought such a sweet, nostalgic glow to the Grange that I hope we can repeat many times over.
On the last Saturday of every month if you stopped by the Grange’s pancake breakfasts, you likely tasted Farmer Megan’s 'southern style' grits or enjoyed a plate stacked high with hotcakes from the scratch-made batter I whipped up while cracking dozens of farm eggs. We also hosted weekly Zumba classes that kept everyone moving and smiling all summer long. Every single event put on by Evergreen Farm this summer—from the dances and movies to Zumba—was completely for donations to the Grange. We want to extend the biggest, most heartfelt thank-you to all of you who attended, chipped in, and volunteered your time at these Grange events. You helped make this a summer to remember!
We were also so honored this summer to be featured in the newspaper recently for our partnership with the Grange's food bank pop-up! We've been donating fresh flower bouquets to each food bank at the South Camano Grange and we hope patrons have enjoyed the blooms! Check out the article in the Stanwood Camano News.
A few more special connections made the season even sweeter: our African Sulcata tortoise, Cisco Morris, had his own grand adventure visiting the kids at the Camano Forest School for an interactive lesson on tortoises. The students and teachers made him the sweetest thank-you card, which is officially getting hung right inside his house.
And we must send a huge shout-out to our dear friends at Club Meadow—your constant support across our Grange events this summer helped keep everything running smoothly, warmly, and beautifully for the whole community.
💐 Busting with Blossoms at the Stand Right Now
Right now, life on the farm is centered completely on the fields, and we are quite literally selling bouquets as fast as we can put them out! If you haven’t swung by the farmstand yet, do NOT miss out—our cutting gardens are busting with blossoms at peak summer saturation.
You’ll find vibrant dahlias, cosmos, snapdragons, zinnias, calendula, and so much more filling the buckets. Best of all, by popular demand, we are now offering long-stem sunflower bouquets, and we’re also featuring bright sunflowers right in our standard $5 bouquets. The colors are electric right now, so come grab a burst of sunshine for your kitchen table before the season shifts.
🍂 Looking Ahead to Autumn & Upcoming Dates
As we head into late September, we’re preparing to close out this chapter of the season with a bang:
Saturday, September 26th — Final Farm Stand Store Day: We will be wrapping up our walk-in farmstand store at the final South Camano Grange Farmer’s Market on September 26th. Come stroll through, browse, and celebrate the season's close with us!
The Auxiliary Stand Stays Open for Fall Flowers! While the walk-in store won't be open for browsing after market day, our auxiliary roadside stand will remain open and stocked with fresh bouquets for as long as we have blooms in the field well into the fall. Our Pompon Rocco dahlias are already going strong and will be the stars of some gorgeous, moody purple Halloween-themed bouquets once October arrives.
October 19th — Grange Blood Drive: Mark your calendars to help support our wider community! The South Camano Grange will be hosting a blood drive with Bloodworks Northwest on Monday, October 19th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We’d love to see a great turnout of neighbors rolling up their sleeves.
Thank you to everyone who shared a meal, danced, sweated it out in Zumba, cheered Farmer Megan on, or took a little piece of our harvest home. We can't wait to see your smiling faces at the farm stand in the coming weeks!
